SCRANTON PREP 42, TUNKHANNOCK 0

At Dunmore High School, Scranton Prep scored on all five of their drives in the first half in dominating Tunkhannock 42-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A tournament. Prep will face off with Mid-Valley in a rematch of their Week 7 contest which Prep won 28-7. Tunkhannock finishes their season at 3-8.

Prep took the opening kickoff and marched 57 yards in 3 plays, all runs by junior tailback, Will McPartland. The final carry of 10 yards, followed by the first of Tyler Bianchi’s 6 extra points, put Prep up 7-0 with 10:13 to go in the first period.

The Tigers fumbled the football away on their very first offensive plays. Prep, once again, scored in 3 plays, this time from 27 yards out, on three consecutive Treyvon Dickey runs, the largest being a 24-yard pitch on 1^st and 10. Dickey scored on a 1-yard burst to make the score 14-0 with 9:08 left in the first.

Tunkhannock was able to parlay a fake punt to move the ball out to their own 44-yard line. On the next play, Cavalier defensive back picked off a Tunkhannock pass and sprinted 62 yards down the right sideline in front of a joyful Cavalier bench to put Prep up 21-0 with 3:51 still to play in the opening stanza.

On the ensuing drive, the Tigers tried another fake punt, this one ending on a loss of 14 yards. Three consecutive runs, the theme of the first quarter, resulted in 12 yards and a touchdown from a yard out by sophomore fullback, Braedon McPartland. The first quarter ended with Prep holding a commanding 28-0 lead.

After a Tunkhannock punt, the Cavaliers took to the air. On a drive that saw senior standout quarterback Louis Paris connect on 5 of his 6 attempts, Prep utilized the running of sophomore Anthony Prince. The fleet Prince rushed four times for 39 yards on the drive, culminating with his 6-yard plunge. Bianchi’s extra point made the score 35-0 with 6:26 left before halftime.

After forcing another Tunkhannock punt, Prep drove 50 yards in 6 plays. Prince was once again the headliner on the drive, netting 28 yards on 3 more carries. Prince bulled over from a yard out. Bianchi’s extra point put the exclamation point on the Prep explosion, making the final score 42-0 as the Cavaliers emptied the bench after halftime.

Prep, now 10-1, will continue their bid to repeat as district champions when they host Mid-Valley next weekend. The winner will vie for the district title in two weeks.
