MONTROSE – William Marcy accounted for 354 all-purpose and three touchdowns while Rykin Hobart led the defense Friday night as Susquehanna rolled over host Montrose, 42-6, to retain the Battle for the Bluestone trophy.
Hobart received the Thomas E. Robinson Memorial Award, which Marcy landed a year ago, for outstanding play while showing respect for officials and opponents.
Marcy carried 17 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns, caught three passes for 65 yards, returned a kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown and returned a punt 35 yards. He also had four tackles and three assists, including a sack and another tackle for a loss and an assist on each.
Hobart led the way as Susquehanna responded to a 29-yard Montrose gain on the game’s second play by not allowing the Meteors a first down and throwing them for losses resulting in a net of minus-41 yards total offense on the remaining 16 first-half offensive plays.
The defensive end finished with three sacks for 36 yards in losses, seven total tackles, two assists, two pass rushes and a forced fumble.
The Sabers (1-1) held the Meteors (0-2) to 46 yards total offense – 23 each rushing and passing.
Marcy opened the scoring on an 8-yard run, added a 26-yarder in the third quarter for a 28-0 lead and responded to the only Montrose score with his kickoff return with 6:35 remaining.
Sophomore quarterback Weston Yannone carried 11 times for 86 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion and was 4-for-6 passing for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Joel Decker scored on a 27-yard pass reception, Parker Overbaugh scored on a 20-yard run and Torin Fissel kicked four extra points.
