Recap
SCRANTON 21 WEST SCRANTON 0
In the annual Bell Game played at Scranton Memorial Stadium, Scranton High School won their sixth consecutive game in the rivalry by the score of 21-0. The unbeaten Knights used a strong performance by Reece Whitman who rushed for two touchdowns.
Whitman’s second score from 10 yards out gave the Knights a 14-0 lead with 5:16 left to play in the opening half. The Invaders, who struggled to move the football on the ground throughout the contest, were forced into a quarterback change in the second half as Coach Jake Manetti turned to sophomore Jake DeLuca. While the young signal caller was able to make some plays in the passing game, West was never able to crack the end zone.
The final Scranton points came in the second quarter as junior quarterback, Brody Coyle found Chris Delsantro for a 65-yard score. Coyle finished the evening with 194 yards passing, pairing the touchdown toss to Delsantro with one interception.
The second half saw West threaten, but a Tristen Smith interception of DeLuca’s pass with less than two minutes remaining in the contest sealed the shutout for the Knights.
Scranton (4-0) will host a huge divisional contest next Friday night against Scranton Prep while West Scranton (0-4) will travel to Luzerne County to take on Wilkes-Barre Area who is now 1-3.
