RIVERSIDE 62 HANOVER AREA 13

At Hanover Area, Riverside senior quarterback, Chase Taddonio, rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more, and sophomore speedster Carmello Bernett added three scoring jaunts of his own as the Vikings routed Hanover Area 62-13. The Vikings stayed perfect on the young season at 2-0 while Hanover suffered their second consecutive loss.

The Vikings raced to a 17-0 lead after the initial stanza as Barnett and Taddonio sandwiched scoring runs around a 23-yard field goal by Santino D’Amico. Barnett’s 10-yard run ended the Vikings’ first drive. D’Amico’s first boot followed a 50-yard pass play from Taddonio to Brady Zaledonis to place Riverside deep in Hawkeye territory. Taddonio’s 1-yard sneak finished the scoring in the first quarter.

With 8:00 left before the half, Taddonio sprinted 20 yards for his second score. After Barrett jetted 45 yards on an inside reverse, the Vikings had extended their advantage to 31-0. D’Amico, one of the finest kickers in District 2, blasted a 40-yard field goal to extend the lead to 34-0. With less than a minute remaining before halftime, Taddonio tossed a screen pass to standout tight end/H-back Richie Kostoff that the senior carried 60 yards for a touchdown. The half ended with the Vikings ahead 41-0.

With the mercy rule in effect throughout the course of the second half, Riverside still managed three more touchdowns. Ny-Jie Scott Holt pounded the ball in from 5 yards out, Barrett tallied his final touchdown on a 7-yard run, and Pavalonis took a short pass from Taddonio 70 yards down the sideline to account for the remainder of the Riverside scoring.

Both Hanover touchdowns came on long aerials from quarterback Logan Richardson to sophomore Jonathan Otway-Kellom, the first from 65 yards and the second from 40.

Riverside travels to Lakeland next weekend in a key contest for both teams. Hanover Area will attempt to notch their first win as they host Holy Cross next Friday.
