WILKES-BARRE 21, PITTSTON AREA 10
Davon Underwood produced the first two touchdowns Friday night as host Wilkes-Barre shook off a slow start to score the game’s last 21 points and defeat Pittston Area, 21-10, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game to give coach Ciro Cinti his 100th career victory.
Coming off a shutout loss at Hazleton Area last week, Wilkes-Barre fell behind 10-0 with a sluggish first quarter.
Underwood cut the deficit to 10-7 at halftime on an 8-yard touchdown run.
The Wolfpack moved in front during the third quarter on the first of Jake Howe’s two touchdown passes, a 29-yarder to Underwood.
Just over two minutes later, Howe found Rajon Watson, who turned the completion into a 75-yard touchdown.
Pittston Area opened the scoring on a 25-yard Gavin Wolfe field goal and added a 1-yard touchdown by quarterback Matt Walter in the last minute of the first quarter.
Howe completed eight of 15 passes for 147 yards in the win.
Both teams remain in the division next week.
Wilkes-Barre (3-4 overall, 1-2) plays at Wyoming Valley West on Saturday Oct. 12 at noon.
Pittston Area (2-5, 1-3) heads to Hazleton Area Friday night.
