PITTSTON AREA 47, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 7
Pittston Area used some first quarter special teams fireworks from sophomore Lucas Lopresto to jump out to a two-score lead over Wyoming Valley West, and then rolled to a dominating 47-7 win over the Spartans in Kingston.
Lopresto did not wait around long to get the Patriots on scoreboard, returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a score. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but Pittston was on top 6-0 just seconds into the game.
Later in the first, Lopresto fielded a Valley West punt at his own 36, split the coverage and raced to the end zone to put the Patriots up 13-0.
Lopresto added a 63-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, and an 18-yard scoring strike in the fourth, giving the star wideout four touchdowns on the evening.
On the first play of the second quarter, senior quarterback Matt Walter scored on a QB keeper from seven yards out, and senior running back C.J. Pietrzak added a 25-yard touchdown dash.
Just before halftime, the Spartans put together a 75-yard drive, capped by a one-yard plunge for a score by senior quarterback Carson Brown, to put Valley West on the board and make the score 34-7 at halftime.
That score held until the first play of the fourth, a touchdown catch by sophomore tight end Colten Lis. Lopresto’s fourth touchdown made it 47-7 and triggered the running clock for the rest of the game.
Pittston Area (2-2, 1-0) will host Dallas next Friday while Wyoming Valley West (0-4, 0-1) is on the road at Hazleton Area.
