OLD FORGE 28, WEST SCRANTON 27

Two schools traditionally known for their defenses put on an offensive display as Old Forge outlasted West Scranton, 28-27, in the opening game of the season at Scranton Memorial Stadium. 

Trailing 14-6 at the half, West scored 15 unanswered points to open the third quarter as Dayron Groves ran 49 and 74 yards to paydirt to give the Invaders a 21-14 lead. 

But the Blue Devils came back just 23 seconds later when T.J. DiMattia hit Cael Krushnowski for a 45-yard strike to tie the game at 21. 

West responded in the fourth when Shamier Lyons scored from six yards out. West chose to go for two but was stopped as they led 27-21 with 8:12 left. 

Two minutes later, DiMattia found Krushnowski for his third receiving touchdown of the night, a 43-yard strike down the hash marks to tie the game. Isiah Rodriquez booted his fourth PAT of the night and Old Forge (1-0) led 28-27 with 6:07 remaining. 

West (0-1) showed no quit and drove to the Old Forge 10 with just over two minutes remaining, but Krushnowski came up with a big play on fourth down to break up a go ahead touchdown pass to seal the win for the Blue Devils. 

Krushnowski finished the night with over 200 yards total offense, catching four passes for 127 yards and three scores, and rushing for 100 yards on 22 carries. DiMattia threw for 205 yards and four TDs, the fourth a 28-yard strike to Frankie Pero. 

Gloves led the Invaders with 195 yards rushing on 16 carries, adding a 44 yard first-quarter scoring run to his second half touchdowns.
