SCRANTON PREP 28, MID-VALLEY 0

At Dunmore High School, Scranton Prep raced out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and then allowed their defense to carry them the rest of the way, shutting out Mid-Valley by the score of 28-0. The Cavaliers won their fifth consecutive game while Mid-Valley lost their second straight.

Prep took the opening kickoff and traveled 56 yards in 9 plays. The key play of the drive was a pass from quarterback Louis Paris to tailback Will McPartland that covered 27 yards converting on 3^rd down and 13 from the Spartan 37. Two plays later, Paris bulled over from the 1, the first of his three touchdowns in the game. Tyler Bianchi’s extra point made it 7-0 with 7:21 remaining in the first quarter.

After forcing a three and out, Prep took over at their own 48. This time, it took the Cavaliers just 6 plays to traverse 52 yards. Paris bulled through the middle of the Spartan line for 22 yards from midfield to set up the score. It was McPartland who did the honors for Prep, cruising off tackle for 16 yards. Bianchi was successful once again and the Cavaliers led 14-0 with 1:27 left in the first period.

Mid-Valley used a determined ground game led by tailbacks Jakob Lesher and Mason Vinansky to control the football. Their next drive included 13 plays, but a Brett Yanoski pass fell incomplete on 4^th and 9 from the Prep 41.

For the third consecutive drive, Prep found the end zone as they marched 59 yards in just four plays. Paris connected with senior widout Brady Holmes on a 34-yard toss on the first play of the drive. Three plays later, Paris faked a handoff and then carried the football himself off the left side for 20 yards and a touchdown. Bianchi’s kick made the score 21-0, a lead that Prep took into the locker room at halftime.

Mid-Valley took the second half kickoff and marched into Prep territory. On 3^rd and 10 from the Prep 47, the shotgun snap eluded Yanoski and Paris sacked him after a 16-yard loss, forcing the Spartans to punt.

On the next drive, though Paris was able to find McPartland on a 32-yard swing pass that put the ball in Mid-Valley territory, the Cavaliers were forced to punt.

The Cavaliers were able to hit paydirt one more time on a drive in the fourth quarter. Taking over at their own 45 after a Mid-Valley punt, Prep moved 55 yards in 7 plays. Paris was on the money on three consecutive pass plays, the big one coming when he found Holmes on a pass down the middle of the field. Holmes was tackled at the 1-yard line after a 34-yard gain. On the very next play, Paris burrowed over for his third touchdown run of the night. Bianchi connected again to make it 28-0, giving the Cavaliers their third shutout of the season.

Scranton Prep (7-1 overall) will travel to face District 4 power Jersey Shore next weekend. Mid-Valley (5-3) will travel to Western Wayne on Friday night to face the Wildcats.
