MID-VALLEY 27, HONESDALE 14

At Honesdale, the unbeaten Mid-Valley Spartans handed Honesdale their second consecutive loss by the score of 27-14. Though the Hornets were able to hold senior star tailback Jakob Lesher to under 100 yards rushing, the Spartans were able to use the arm of junior quarterback, Brett Yanoski, to make key plays in the passing game.

Though limited for much of the evening, Lesher kicked off the scoring for Mid-Valley, blasting through the Honesdale defense from 5 yards away. The point after was unsuccessful and with 5:21 left in the opening quarter, the Spartans led 6-0.

Honesdale was able to take the lead midway through the second quarter on a 4-yard scamper by standout running back, Gabe Duda. Rylan Montgomery’s extra point put the Hornets ahead 7-6, a lead they would carry into the locker room at intermission.

Yanoski was the star of the second half for Mid-Valley. With the Hornet defense loading the box to stop Lesher, Yanoski was able to utilize the other weapons in the Spartan offense. With 6:42 left in the third quarter, Yanoski found Rhys Williams to put Mid-Valley ahead to stay at 13-7.

Mid-Valley was able to hit paydirt the very next time they got the football. Fullback Kaleb Parry covered the final 3 yards and Mid-Valley led 20-7. Just as it looked as though the Spartans were about to put the game away, Honesdale struck with the big play. Duda tallied his second touchdown of the night, this one coming on a 32-yard strike from quarterback Aiden Collins to cut the margin to just one score with only 9 seconds left in the quarter.

The Spartans got the insurance touchdown they needed when, with just 2:57 left in the game, Yanoski posted his second scoring aerial of the night, firing a 34-yard pass to Jake Bondi, making the final 27-14.

Mid-Valley (4-0, 1-0) will travel to face once-beaten Lackawanna Trail next weekend. Honesdale (2-2, 0-1) visits Valley View, winners of their last three contests.
