HONESDALE 56, NANTICOKE 7

Mason Avery scored three touchdowns on the ground and returned a kickoff for another to start the game as Honesdale steamrolled Nanticoke 56-7. The Hornets broke a four-game losing streak.

The Hornets got two first quarter touchdowns from Avery and Gabe Duda to storm out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter.

Honesdale would continue to score at will in the second quarter as Avery had 11-yard and 21-yard touchdown runs with a Duda 50-yard touchdown run sandwiched in between and 49-0 halftime lead.

The Trojans, who have scored only 28 total points through the first seven weeks of the season, finally got the ball in end zone in the third quarter when running back Treston Allen connected with James Bush for a 34-yard halfback pass.

Backup Zachary Meagher scored the final touchdown of the game –  a 43-yard pass from Abe Bryant – to make it 56-7. The fourth quarter was scoreless.

Hornets quarterback Aiden Collins was able to return to the lineup after leaving last week’s game with an injury. Avery finished with 141 rushing yards in one half before going to the bench.

Honesdale (4-4)  will travel to Dunmore next Friday night while Nanticoke (1-7)  will visit Wyoming Area.
