Recap
EXECUTIVE EDUCATION 42, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 7
In a sequence of events that was emblematic of Wyoming Valley West’s season, the Spartans forced the visiting Executive Education Raptors offense into punting situations on their first two drives, and both drives resulted in touchdowns for the Raptors.
Executive Education, a charter school from the Allentown area, took that good fortune and cruised to a 42-7 win Friday night at Spartan Stadium in Kingston.
On their first drive, the Raptors found themselves in a fourth and long situation inside their own 30 yard line and lined up to punt. But a pass interference call against Valley West on the fake punt kept the drive alive. Zion Brake scored on a 35-yard run a few plays later and with a two-point conversion, the Raptors were out to a 8-0 lead.
Near the end of the first, Executive Education was forced to punt near midfield. This time they actually kicked the ball, and then recovered a muffed return attempt and Yaseen Mirza scored on a nine-yard run to cap that drive and the Raptors lead was 14-0.
Executive Education took a 22-0 lead with just :35 to play before halftime on a Josiah Floyd touchdown catch from Brake.
The Spartans did answer, striking quickly before halftime, when senior quarterback Carson Brown hit Kamau Ingram in the corner of the end zone with :03 on the clock in quarter two. The extra point was blocked and the Raptors took a 22-6 lead to the locker room.
Executive Education added a 25-yard touchdown catch by Sylis Styles and a 77-yard interception return from Jeremiah Rodriguez in the third quarter, and another scoring run from Brake, this one from 16 yards, to finish the scoring for the night.
