East Stroudsburg-South at Abington Heights

ES SOUTH 33, ABINGTON HEIGHTS 14

In Clarks Summit, Abington Heights fell to the visiting Cavaliers of East Stroudsburg South by the score of 33-14. South was led by the rushing of senior tailback Charles Capers who accounted for three touchdowns on the ground.

After Capers’s first touchdown run early in the first quarter, Abington Heights countered with a touchdown strike from junior quarterback, Nick Bradley, to Shane Brower with 6:55 left to even the score at 7. South quickly answered to retake the lead on a scoring pass from junior quarterback, Ivan Laubach to Xzavier Pusateri. Pusateri was a standout on both sides of the ball all evening for South. The first quarter ended with the Cavaliers holding a 14-7 advantage.

Charles Capers was back at it to begin the second stanza, carrying the football 2 yards to extend the South lead to 21-7. Once again, Nick Bradley threw a strike, this time to wideout Shawn Theodore which narrowed the South lead to 21-14. Just before halftime, however, disaster struck for the home squad as Bradley’s toss was intercepted by Pusateri who notched his second touchdown of the evening, sending the Cavaliers to halftime with a 27-14 advantage.

After a scoreless third period, Capers finished the scoring with his third touchdown run of the evening. After the attempt for two points was unsuccessful, the score stood at 33-14 which turned out to be the final.

Abington Heights will be at home again next week on Saturday afternoon in The Pit as they host the Invaders of West Scranton.
