Recap
RIVERSIDE 16, DUNMORE 3
In Taylor, Coach Harry Armstrong and the Vikings used a balanced offensive attack and an opportunistic defense as Riverside won a huge inter-division matchup against the Dunmore Bucks. J.J. Rogers accounted for both Viking touchdowns, both from 6 yards out. The Vikings mixed the ground game led by Rogers with timely completions by senior quarterback Chase Taddonio to control the football, particularly in the second half of play.
Rodgers scored his first touchdown on the Vikings’ opening drive. The PAT was unsuccessful. Dunmore immediately answered as Eric Reese capped a Buck drive with a 30 yard field goal, cutting the Vikings’ lead in half at 6-3. Neither team was able to mount a successful march until the Vikings added six more points midway through the second stanza, again with Rogers finishing things with a 14-yard run. Santino D’Amico added the point and the Vikings took a 13-3 lead into intermission.
In the second half, the Buck defense was able to throttle Riverside, keeping them out of the end zone as the Vikings were limited to Santino D’Amico’s 34-yard field goal at the outset of the final frame. Dunmore turned the ball over twice, once in each half, and were hampered by costly penalties that stalled drives.
Senior tight end, Richie Kostoff, was a stalwart all evening, hauling in important passes from Taddonio to extend drives as the Vikings were able to keep the Buck offense off the field.
The Vikings travel to Hanover Area next week while Dunmore will play their home opener of the 2024 campaign against Old Forge.
