DALLAS 35, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 6

It was homecoming night for the Wyoming Valley West Spartans, but it was the visiting Dallas Mountaineers who did all of the celebrating, with a 35-6 win at Spartan Stadium in Kingston.

Dallas got on the board quickly, in an unusual way, when Valley West was forced to punt on its opening possession and the snap sailed over the punter’s head. Senior Nate Malarkey picked up the loose ball at the goal line and stepped in for the score, giving the Mounts a 7-0 edge.

On Dallas’ next possession, senior quarterback Brady Zapoticky hit a wide open Gavin Lewis in between the hash marks for a 50-yard scoring strike. And just before the first frame ended, senior running back Dylan Geskey plunged into the end zone from four yards out, and Dallas led 21-0 after one.

Zapoticky scored on a one-yard QB keeper and Gesky added another three-yard score in the second quarter, to make it 35-0 and trigger the running clock for the second half.

The Spartans highlight came in the fourth, when sophomore linebacker Gadgidas Reisinger stepped in front of a pass from Dallas backup QB Jimmy Youngblood, deep in Spartans territory and returned it all the way to the Dallas 20. Valley West was able to cash that in a few plays later, on a Tyler Mattis touchdown grab from Carson Brown.

Dallas (4-3 overall, 3-0) will visit Crestwood next Friday in a battle of teams unbeaten in the divisio. Wyoming Valley West (0-7, 0-3) will host Wilkes-Barre next Saturday afternoon.
