VALLEY VIEW 28, CRESTWOOD 13
Valley View bounced back from an Week 1 loss with big plays and a defensive stand to beat Crestwood 28-13 in a non-conference game. Both teams played without their starting quarterbacks, but it was the Cougars backup Casey Malsberger who gave Valley View an advantage. The senior threw a touchdown pass and scored two rushing touchdowns to help stake the Cougars to 28-0 second half lead.
Crestwood offensive struggles started on their first drive with two botched snaps and then an interception by Valley View’s Tyler Scoblick giving the Cougars their first possession in Comets territory. Valley View drove the short field and Preston Reed scored from 6 yards out to make it 7-0
The Comets moved the ball better on their second drive but was forced to punt. But after a big run by Nick Kucharski, Malsberger hit Beyon McLean in the end zone for a 14-0 lead. Crestwood continued to move the ball, but Kucharski had an acrobatic interception at the goal line to stop the next drive.
Valley View was forced to punt and Crestwood got down to the goal line but were stopped at the one and couldn’t get off another play to keep the score 14-0.
The Cougars took the second half kickoff and drove down the field with a big pass play to McLean and then Masberger had his first touchdown run for 27 yards and a 21-0 lead. Valley View would add another touchdown on their next drive on a short run by Malsberger set up by a long run by Kucharski
Crestwood would finally get on the board on a Colin Lazo TD run and added one more in the 4th quarter on a John Rodgers 1-yard run on short drive that saw Valley View commit 45 yards in penalties.
Kucharski ended up with 115 rushing yards while Malsberger threw for 106 yards. Jacob Jeckell finished with 73 yards rushing to lead the Comets.
Valley View (1-1) will travel to Wilkes-Barre next Friday while Crestwood (0-2) visits Tunkhannock.
