VALLEY VIEW 21, CRESTWOOD 14

Valley View scored two second half touchdowns and held on to defeat Crestwood 21-14. The Cougars will host Dallas next Friday night in the District Class 4A title game in a rematch of last year’s championship game.

Valley View got off to a fast start. After forcing a Crestwood punt, three plays later, Nick Kucharski ran for a 45-yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 Valley View lead.

Crestwood would put a drive together and advance to the Cougars 43 before being stopped on 4th down. Valley View then went three and out, but a bad snap on the punt forced punter Tim Ulkoski to run and he was short of the first down. That gave the Comets the ball at midfield, but they went three and out and were forced to punt.

Valley View also went three and out on their next possession and Crestwood would embark on a 11-play, 55 yard drive capped off by a Colin Lazo 6-yard touchdown run.

The Cougars put together a drive before halftime and scored on an apparent touchdown pass from Zach Cwalinski to Beyon McLean, but it was negated by an ineligble man down field penalty. Valley View would be stopped on 4th on an incomplete pass on the end zone to end the half.

Valley View received the second half kickoff and put together a 17-play, 77 yard drive that took 9 minute 27 seconds off the clock. Cwalinski scored from 1 yard out and Valley View took a 14-7 lead.

After a Crestwood punt, the Cougars put another long drive together converting a 3rd and 10 with a Cwalinski to Kucharski 33-yard pass. Two plays later, Cwalinski would score from 9 yards out and a 21-7 lead.

The Comets would answer. Aided by a pass interference call. Crestwood would scored on a two-yard run by Gio Barna on 4th down to cut the lead to 21-14

But Valley View would gain two first downs on the next possesion and take a knee for the victory.

It was the second win this season for the Cougars over the Comets.

Kucharski led the Cougars with 127 total yards. Valley View held the Comets to 130 yards of total offense.
