CARBONDALE AREA 28, HOLY CROSS 0

Carbondale used a stout defense, a strong run game and big plays from freshman quarter Cole Becchetti to shut out Holy Cross in a LFC Division III matchup.

Caedon Voglino rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown and Becchetti ran for two scores and threw another.

But it was the Chargers defense that made a statement throughout the afternoon holding the Crusaders to less then 50 yards of offense and constantly pressuring Holy Cross quarterback Josh Lentowski.

After a scoreless first quarter, Becchetti found Daniel Gonzalez for a 24-yard touchdown pass and an 8-0 lead that Carbondale would take into the locker room in the halftime.

The Chargers put the game away in the third quarter with Becchetti and Voglino scoring on short runs. Becchetti would run for a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.

Carbondale (3-1, 1-0) will hit the road next Friday to take on Dunmore. Holy Cross (2-2, 0-1) will visit Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech next Saturday.
