ABINGTON HEIGHTS 21, NORTH POCONO 3

In Moscow, the Abington Heights Comets parlayed a stingy defense with a big-play offense to hand North Pocono its second straight loss, 21-3. The Comets rebounded from last week’s tough loss to Valley View.

The Comets drew first blood in the first quarter when junior quarterback Nick Bradley dashed into the end zone from two yards out to give Abington Heights a 7-0 lead with 3:13 left in the opening quarter.

North Pocono countered on their ensuing drive, their most successful of the evening. Still, the Trojans were unable to reach the end zone, settling for a 29-yard field goal off the foot of Sam Magnotta. With 10:05 left before halftime, the Comets still led, 7-3.

The Comets’ special teams were the next to contribute, as junior Gavin Anders blocked a North Pocono punt which classmate Anthony Severs covered for an Abington Heights touchdown. The Comets led 14-3 with 6:12 left to play in the first half. Though Bradley had good success through the air, passing for over 130 yards in the opening half, the teams went to intermission at 14-3.

Gavin Anders was able to find the end zone himself in the 4^th quarter for the Comets. The junior wideout was on the receiving end of a 7-yard toss from Bradley with 10:23 left in the contest, putting the Comets comfortably in front at 21-3, the game’s final score.

Abington Heights (3-2, 1-1) will host LFC Division I rival Delaware Valley next Saturday afternoon at the Pit in a key matchup. North Pocono (3-2, 0-2) will look to get back on track as they travel to the Back Mountain to face Dallas in an interconference tussle.
