The PIAA hasn’t officially released the 2022 playoff brackets, but this is what is looking like at this point. This is subject to change, but the blueprint is laid out for district qualifiers and where they would head in the state playoffs. Power rankings will be used to determine who qualifies and seeding.
CLASS 6A: Hazleton Area, Wilkes-Barre
Only two teams in Class 6A now and they will play in a subregional with District 4 (Williamsport) and District 11 (10 teams). It appears 8 teams will qualify out of 13 with the winner of this subregional playing the District 12 champion in a state quarterfinal.
CLASS 5A: Abington Heights, Delaware Valley, Pittston Area, Scranton, West Scranton, Wyoming Valley West
Four teams out of six will qualify for districts with winner playing the District 11 champion in the first round of the state playoffs
CLASS 4A: Berwick, Crestwood, Dallas, Honesdale, Nanticoke, North Pocono, Tunkhannock, Valley View, Wallenpaupack, Wyoming Area
Class 4A is once again the only classification where 8 teams qualify for districts. Only two teams will be left out. Winner will play the winner of District 1/12 in the state quarterfinals.
CLASS 3A: Carbondale, Hanover Area, Lake-Lehman, Montrose, Scranton Prep, Western Wayne
Four of the six teams in Class 3A will qualify for the playoffs. The winner will play the winner of District 12 in the first round of the state playoffs.
CLASS 2A: Dunmore, Holy Cross, Holy Redeemer, Lakeland, Mid Valley, Riverside, Susquehanna
Four of the seven teams in Class 2A will qualify for the playoffs. The winner will play the winner of District 11 in the first round of the state playoffs.
CLASS 1A: Lackawanna Trail, Old Forge
Both teams will qualify and play for the Class 1A title in Week 11. The winner will play in a subregional with District 1/12. The winner will play in first round of state playoffs vs. District 11.
