2020 PREVIEW
It was a four-year plan for coach Rich Mannello that paid. After taking some lumps with a freshman getting experience back in 2016, that group took the Mountaineers all the way to Hershey for the school’s second state championship game appearance. Now, he will try to create some of that magic with an entirely new group of kids.
R.J. Wren got experience last year and will take over at quarterback. Parker Bolesta is a sophomore who already is getting noticed and will line up at fullback and lead the away for tailback Nickolus Gashi, who missed part of 2019 with an injury. The wide receivers will be Ben Fife, the lone returing starter on offense and Matt Lukasavage. The tight end position and all five offensive line positions will be won in training camp.
On defense, Bolesta will be the leader on the defensive line while Gashi returns to start at linebacker. Wren is a returning starter on defense and Fife will also be in the secondary. Other positions will be filled by newcomers.
Jace Chopyak will take over the kicking duties while Mitchell Burgess will be punter this season.
