Here are the rankings after Week 5 powered by Gaughan Auto Store:
BIG SCHOOL
- North Pocono Trojans (5-0), defeated Abington Heights 21-0 (Last week: 1)
The defense took care of business Friday pitching a shutout. The offense wasn’t as dominant as recent weeks, but it really didn’t matter. Quarterback Chase Zimmerman continues to make plays for the Trojans as they sit on top of the Class 4A and LFC Division 1 standings at the halfway point.
Next up: at Wilkes-Barre (1-4) – Friday - Dallas Mountaineers (5-0), defeated Wilkes-Barre 47-7 (Last week: 2)
There is no doubt the Mountaineers are a serious challenger in Class 4A. They have not really been challenged in 2026 and continue to show a balanced offense and underrated defense. More important, it seems they get a special teams touchdown every week.
Next up: vs. Hazleton Area (1-4) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Valley View Cougars (3-2) defeated Scranton 56-22 (Last week: 4)
Valley View took out some offensive frustrations last Friday, but they need more of that against better opponents. The Cougars are looking for a signature win this season and will have some opportunities as the fight for playoff seeding in Class 4A.
Next up: vs. Delaware Valley (1-4) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Wallenpaupack Buckhorns (4-1), defeated Delaware Valley 31-8 (Last week: 5)
A huge win for the Buckhorns against a foe that has dominated them in recent seasons. With a strong front, Wallenpaupack will be a challenge to everyone on its schedule in LFC Division 1. They can be classified as one of the biggest surprises in the area so far.
Next up: at West Scranton (2-3) – (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Abington Heights Comets (2-3), lost to North Pocono 21-0 (Last week: 3)
Quarterback Noah Kayal returned to the lineup for the Comets, but it didn’t help an offense that is struggling. The defense held their own against the best team in the area, but the offense has to finish drives if it wants to make the postseason.
Next up: at Scranton Prep (4-1) – (Listen on NPF) Friday - Honesdale Hornets (4-1), defeated Crestwood 36-7 (Last week: NR)
The Hornets defense can step forward and take a bow. It held down Crestwood’s offense and Honesdale’s offense continues to roll as they head into division play. Bet on them to get in the postseason and maybe even host a playoff game.
Next up: vs. Western Wayne (3-2) – Friday
SMALL SCHOOL
- Dunmore Bucks (5-0), defeated Susquehanna 56-6 (Last week: 1)
The Bucks dominated everyone in their non-league schedule and now they will start playing familiar foes. Every game inside the division will be a grind, but Dunmore will also be more challenged than the first half of the season which should help them down the road.
Next up: at Mid Valley (3-2) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Scranton Prep Cavaliers (4-1), defeated West Scranton 57-7 (Last week: 2)
Scranton Prep put together their best overall performance on both sides of the ball. It seems the Cavaliers have either been winning with offense or with defense every week, not both. Scranton Prep is the favorite for the No. 1 seed in Class 3A and still unbeaten in division play.
Next up: vs. Abington Heights (2-3) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Lakeland Chiefs (5-0), defeated Carbondale 40-6 (Last week: 3)
Lakeland’s offense was a little rusty in the first half, but the defense held its own. When the Chiefs finally woke up, it was another Mercy Rule victory. The first big test of the season is coming up this Friday.
Next up: at Riverside (5-0) – (Listen on NPF) Friday - Riverside Vikings (5-0), defeated Old Forge 35-28 (Last week: 4)
Riverside had a gutsy win Friday as it built a big lead, lost some key players, and withstood a frantic comeback from its rival. Now it gets real for the Vikings who have will face their stiffest test of the season this week.
Next up: vs. Lakeland (5-0) – (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Wyoming Area Warriors (3-2), defeated Western Wayne 31-13 (Last week: 6)
Wyoming Area had to have a big play before half and a big second half to earn their first winning streak of the season. The Warriors offense looks better every week with a boost from additional playmakers besides Luke Koeptchny.
Next up: vs. Crestwood (1-4) – (Watch on NPF) Friday - Western Wayne Wildcats (3-2), lost to Wyoming Area 31-13 (Last week: 5)
The Wildcats fought hard without their best offensive player, but ran out of gas. They will have even a bigger test as division play starts and will have to get more people involved on offense.
Next up: at Honesdale (4-1) – Friday
