Here are the rankings after Week 1 powered by Gaughan Auto Store:

BIG SCHOOL

  1. North Pocono Trojans (1-0), defeated Berwick 36-20 (Last week: 1)
The Trojans kicked off their title defenses with an impressive first half against Berwick with 30 unanswered points. Then the cramps came and the Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 10. North Pocono scored an insurance touchdown, but there is no doubt they looked good and some of the questions up front were answered.
Next up: at Scranton (0-1) (Watch on NPF) – Friday
  2. Dallas Mountaineers (1-0), defeated Tunkhannock 42-0 (Last week: 2)
Hard to judge the Mountaineers performance because of the opponent, but they did look good on both sides of the ball and took the 42-0 lead at halftime. Coach Mannello was able to get plenty of time for his younger players and the starters will be well-rested for the home opener.
Next up: vs. Wyoming Valley West (0-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  3. Abington Heights Comets (0-1), lost to Allentown Central Catholic 10-3 (Last week: 3)
The Comets struggled to score despite a big game from Jayden Anglin. Abington Heights also lost quarterback Noah Kayal in the first half, but it isn’t expected to be serious. Played a good team tough, but fell short by a score.
Next up: at Trinity Prep (FL) (1-1) – Thursday
  4. Valley View Cougars (0-1), lost to Northwestern Lehigh 28-16 (Last week: 4)
Cougars cut this to a five-point game in the 4th quarter against the Tigers who have been in the last three state championship games. Valley View got good quarterback play, but secondary will have to improve.
Next up: at Crestwood (1-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  5. Delaware Valley Warriors (0-1), lost to Bethlehem Catholic 21-20 (Last week: 5)
On the road, Coach Keith Olsommer went for two and the win. Although it came up short and resulted in a loss, the Warriors showed they can hang with one of the better teams in the Lehigh Valley. Some were down on the Warriors coming into the season, but they look just fine.
Next up: at Northampton (1-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  6. Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (0-1), lost to Whitehall 21-19 (Last week: NR)
The Wolfpack also came up on a two-point conversion attempt to tie the game, but Wilkes-Barre was very competitive against the defending District 11 Class 5A champions. Even though the Wolfpack was hit hard by graduation, it looks to have reloaded rather than rebuilt.
Next up: at Stroudsburg (1-0) – Friday

SMALL SCHOOL

  1. Dunmore Bucks (1-0), defeated Wyoming Area 42-0 (Last week: 3)
Nobody looked as dominant as the Bucks did in Week 1 as they dismantled the best small school team in the WVC. It was all three phases of the game and could be a sign of things to come. The eye test says they are the best small school early.
Next up: at Lackawanna Trail (0-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  2. Scranton Prep Cavaliers (0-1), lost to Loyola Blakefield 41-34 (Last week: 1)
Prep struggled on defense again against Loyola, but the offense surprised everyone putting up 34 points. Some people thought it could be a down year for the Cavaliers, but they usually end up winning district titles when that is the sentiment.
Next up: vs. Trinity (0-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  3. Lakeland Chiefs (1-0), defeated Wellsboro 27-6 (Last week: 2)
With the bad news of QB Rocco Spataro lost for the year and the forfeit from Week 1 opponent Holy Cross, it was a whirlwind week at Chapman Lake. But the Chiefs showed they are a veteran group and answered with an impressive win. Jackson Pochas keeps them a contender and it is realistic they can defend their titles despite the loss of Spataro.
    Next up: at Lake-Lehman (1-0) – Friday
  4. Riverside Vikings (1-0), defeated Susquehanna 42-7 (Last week: 6)
The Vikings waited a quarter to turn it on, but the big question moving forward is can anyone stop Brayden Rose? He was dominant last season and looks better this year. As of Sunday night, it looks like Holy Cross will play Riverside on Friday.
Next up: vs. Holy Cross (0-0) – Friday
  5. Western Wayne Wildcats (1-0), defeated Lackawanna Trail 27-14 (Last week: NR)
The Wildcats pulled the biggest upset of Week 1 and they showed that the lumps they took last year with a young roster can pay off, well at least for one week. Western Wayne looked sharp and new coach Dave Shimkosky has some pretty good football players to build around.
Next up: at Old Forge (0-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  6. Lake-Lehman Black Knights (1-0), defeated Mid Valley 14-13 (Last week: NR)
Coach Mike Mully got his first career victory as they Black Knights got an impressive road win in Lackawanna County. The defense made a big play to seal the win and the offense looked good in its debut although another LFC opponent is on the horizon and it won’t get easier for Lake-Lehman.
Next up: vs. Lakeland (1-0) – Friday
