Every week, we will highlight some of the best special teams performances from the WVC and LFC presented by Northeast Industries. Here is Week 5:
LUCA BERARDI, Holy Cross
Holy Cross has shown the last two weeks that quality is more important than quantity. Luca Berardi is an example of that. The junior wide receiver has started to emerge as a pass-catching threat, but it was his special teams play thay sparked to Crusaders. After Col-Mont Vo-Tech took the lead, Berardi returned the ensuing kickoff 75-yards for a touchdown. Holy Cross would never look back after that as they scored 31 of the next 38 points for their second straight win.
SEAN PATCHCOSKI, Mid Valley
In his first season as the Spartans kicker, Sean Patchcoski has started to be a force for Mid Valley. A soccer player by nature, he had his breakout game last Friday when he went a perfect 6 for 6 with his extra points. The Spartans would put up some points in the win over Lackawanna Tril and Patchcoski made sure he finished each scoring drive.
JORDAN TALARICO, Pittston Area
Field position can be a big factor on both kickoffs and the punt game. Jordan Talarico was a difference make last Friday. HIs three punts averaged 49 yards with a long of 70 that dropped at the 1 yardline. That’s his second 60+ punt of the season. He is averaging 42 yards per kick with five landing inside the 20.
Honorable Mention: Trevor Slavinski, Dallas – 99-yd kickoff return TD; Joey Thomas, Lackawanna Trail – 27-yd field goal; Colby Bonagura, Wallenpaupack -27-yd field goal; Christian Wheeler, Riverside – 5 for 5 extra points; Braden Loff, Valley View – 8 for 8 extra points; Ava Musinski, Wyoming Area – 5 for 5 extra points;
