2026 PREVIEW
The Dawgs are back. After several challenging seasons, Berwick put together an unbeaten regular season and captured the WVC Division 2 championship in 2025. Although the Bulldogs fell short in the district title game, the excitement and momentum generated by last year’s success should carry into 2026. While a talented senior class graduated after rewriting portions of the school record book, Berwick returns enough talent on both sides of the ball to contend once again.
Brady Cleaver was thrust into the starting quarterback role as a freshman and handled it with poise, emerging as one of the team’s leaders by season’s end. Expect an even bigger role from him this fall. Gavin Galutia takes over as the full-time tailback after already rushing for 683 career yards. Brock Simms, Landon Zapata, and Joel Santiago will also see carries. Jake Lisnock is the projected starter at fullback, with Conner Roberts also in the mix.
Shiloh Escobar returns at wide receiver, while Bryce Cleaver, Zapata, Brady McCabe, and Evan Neiderhiser provide depth at the position. Gabe Decker is back as the starting tight end, with Lisnock serving as his backup.
Three starters return along the offensive line, including right tackle Mike Perry, right guard Nico Lonczynski, and center Henry Snyder. The left side will feature new starters with Demarqus McMillan at left tackle and Luca Grozier at left guard.
Defensively, the Bulldogs return several key contributors, including Decker at defensive end, Lonczynski at defensive tackle, Simms and Galutia at linebacker, and Brady Cleaver at cornerback. Lisnock is expected to start at the other defensive end spot. Perry, Snyder, Grozier, and McMillan will be part of the defensive tackle rotation. Roberts, Neiderhiser, and Jason Hook provide depth at linebacker.
Zapata and Derek McCabe are expected to compete for the other cornerback position, while Escobar, Bryce Cleaver, and Brady McCabe make up the safety rotation.
Special teams should once again be a strength with Caleb Yost returning as both the kicker and punter. Decker is back as the team’s long snapper.
COACH CURRY: It is always difficult to replace senior leadership and productivity – especially with the incredibly special class of 2026 leaving the facility. Our core of returners and rising sophomores have shown no complacency this off-season and have attacked with relentless pursuit the opportunity to get better. I am excited for them continue to represent Berwick Football with pride and toughness.
