Every week, we will highlight some of the best linemen from the WVC and LFC presented by Honesdale National Bank. Here is Week 4:
AIDEN ALBERT, Western Wayne
Coming back from an injury that had him miss the first three week, there was big expectations for Aiden Albert to help Western Wayne and he lived up to those expectations and the Wildcats are off to a 3-1 start. He has especially been impactful on the defensive line as he used his size and strength to clog up the middle. This past Friday, he had penetration into the backfield to record two tackles for loss and a half sack.
MATHIAS NGONGO, Riverside
Riverside knew their returning linemen would have to step up with some key losses to graduation. Mathias Ngongo has answered the call on both sides of the ball. On offense, he has been good in run blocking and pass protection to help the Vikings average 36 points per game to start the season. On defense, he plays the edge and has been good at getting after the quarterback.
THOMAS REESE, Abington Heights
Thomas Reese was a big reason for the success for Abington Heights had last season and now he is even more effective on both sides of the ball. On offense, he is an excellent run blocker that has helped his running back become the leading rusher in District 2. On defense last Friday, he had seven tackles, a tackle-for-loss and a forced fumble. Reese continues to be a leader on the team and especially in the trenches.
RYAN VARGO, Wallenpaupack
Ryan Vargo has the distinction of being the Buckhorns sixth lineman. Although he is a skilled receiver at his tight end position, he is one of the best blocking tight ends in the LFC and the results have shown. Wallenpaupack has one of the best runnning games in District 2 and Vargo is a big reason. He is a great drive blocker and shows excellent technique on the edge. He also is a key defender for Paupack.
LUCAS VIADOCK, Wyoming Area
Wyoming Area has had a history of effective tight ends and Lucas Viadock is next in line. Just a freshman, he is already an effective blocker that helped the Warriors rush 262 yards and five touchdowns. On defense, he had eight tackles, one tackle-for-loss and a sack in Wyoming Area’s win over Mid Valley.
