2025 PREVIEW
The Wildcats have had a good run over the past several seasons which included a share of the division championship last year. However, graduation hit Western Wayne hard which will force the team to play inexperienced players with the hope they mature quickly. It won’t be an easy task, but there is optimism to continue to have success on the field despite the obstacles.
Jake Grodack will be the new quarterback and the coaches think he will settle in quickly to a leadership role despite his inexperience. The Wildcats have been a run-first type offense and are confident Quinn Swartz, R.J. Walton, and Hunter Rodgers can keep the running game going at tailback. Ashton Jones or Austin Elias will take over at fullback. A new group of wide receivers will come from the group of Patrick Donahoe, Ashan Stookey, Ashton Jones, and Jason Sparks. Either Donovon Gregorski or Matt Pontosky will be the new tight end.
The offensive line will need to be rebuilt. Vinny Baldini will move from fullback to the left guard position. Another sure starter is Paul Borowski who will either play center or guard. Some other candidates at those positions are Andrew Boandl, Ashton Cook, Andrew Michaud, Kolby Kromko, and Angelo Pyatt. George McHugh and Landon Visceglia will be the new tackles with Michaud, Pyatt, and Andrew Lamb providing depth.
Swartz is a returning starter at defensive end/outside linebacker with Jones or Gregorski playing on the other side. Borowski is back at defensive tackle. Michaud and Viseglia will also be in the rotation inside. Baldini is a returning starter at inside linebacker and will be paired with Elias. Walton is back at cornerback with Sparks, Nate Roman, or Jayden Haswell playing the other side. Donahoe, Rodgers, Grodack, and Stookey are candidates to play the two saftey spots.
Jacob Wells returns to handle the placekicking and Baldini is back as the long snapper.
QUOTE FROM COACH GRODACK: We graduated 17 Seniors last season, and that kind of experience is never easy to replace. But what has impressed me most is how this young group has responded. They have shown up to the weight room every day this summer hungry to get stronger. There is no doubt we are young and inexperienced but they are putting in the work to uphold the standards that have been set for this program
