2025 PREVIEW
The Hawkeyes are hoping a maturing roster and a new coaching staff can turn the program’s fortunes around. Hanover Area has not had a winning season since 2014 but experience is not much of an issue this season. Eric Richardson takes over the program as the new head coach and that family name is all over the Hawks program.
Starting as a freshman, Logan Richardson is back again at quarterback. He threw for 965 yards but struggled with his accuracy and ball security. He should be improved with a year as the starter under his belt. The backfield returns with Dewayne Downey at tailback and Brody Richardson at fullback. Deacon Eisenbach is back for his third year as starter at wide receiver and Connor Richardson also started some games last season. Aiden Safriwe and Lucas Cruz are in the mix to be the new tight end.
The Hawkeyes are returning three offensive linemen and this unit could be the key to the team’s ability to turn things around. John Boehm is back at left tackle, Matt Curry retuns at center and Al-Amin Keshinro is the incumbent right tackle. Jackson Yancey and Will Richards will compete for the left guard job while Jose Mercado, Urijah Rivas, and Ricardo Feliciano will be in the mix for the right guard position.
The Hawkeyes will play a 4-4 on defense with Curry and Keshinro back at the defensive ends. Boehm, Rivas, Richards, and Feliciano will rotate inside at the tackle positions. Downey returns at outside linebacker with T.J. Collins and Safriwe possible options on the other side. Brody Richardson and Lucas Cruz are returning starters at the inside linebacker spots. Both Jayden Cruz and Eisenbach plaed corner last year and Conor Richardson is a returning starter at safety.
Chance Hall will handle the kicking duties.
QUOTE FROM COACH RICHARDSON: Even though we have some returning players, we will again be a young team. However, it isn’t going to keep our players from competing. Great offseason for many and anxious about getting the pads on to see how physical we will be. Need the o-line to gel early to take advantage of the skills that we have. Hoping to take another step forward this year and be competitive.
