2024 PREVIEW
Wilkes-Barre came one score away from winning WVC Division 1 last year and finished 2nd with a 5-1 record. They struggled a little bit outside the conference earning only one win and that’s where they hope they can fare better. The Wolfpack did win the Class 6A title before bowing out in the first round of the state sub-regional. But the talent is there to make another run at the division and defend their district crown.
It’s starts on offense with junior quarterback Jake Howe. He threw for 1,634 yards last season and is a very good pocket passer. Declan Gregor and Jordan Kieselovsky will be the backups. Davon Underwood will be the primary ball carrier with Brody Reh, Kymani Hubbard-Jones, and Ethan Hooper also seeing time at tailback. Gene Ardo returns at fullback with Logan Sincavage and Liam Evanko backing him up. Treyvon Gembitski is a returning starter at wide receiver with Rajon Watson, Jazaiah McCoy, and Kevon Creech also getting playing time there. Nick Saracino is the new tight end with Jordan Kieselovsky and Gino Dalessandro providing depth.
The offensive line doesn’t have a lot of experience but does have one of the best returning interior linemen in the WVC in center Jimmy Gryskewicz. Altemeir Terry and DJ Priore are candidates at left tackle. Ny’Meir Guidoz and Derrick Nah are possibilities at left guard. Either Noah Smith or Nick Shrader will play right guard with Aiden Gilmore or Elijah Williams at left tackle. Gaven Griffith will provide depth in the interior.
Gryskewicz returns at defensive tackle with Guidroz, Noah Smith, and Jervone Washington will be in the rotation. Nick Saracino, Rex Hrabal, Khalil Smith and Gilmore are candidates to play defensive end. Gabe Saracino returns at outside linebacker with Reh, Kieselovsky, and Christian Gayle candidates for the other side. Ardo, and Sincavage have experience at inside linebacker with Dalessandro and Liam Evanko providing depth. Underwood, Watson, and Creech are possible options at cornerback. Gembiski returns at safety with Connor Courtney providing depth.
Jaedyn Sanchez returns as the placekicker. Miguel Galano will also be involved in the kicking game. Ardo will be the long snapper.
