2024 PREVIEW
The Cougars continue to have success on the field and are threat to win a title every season. They haven’t lost more than three games in any season since 2017 However, they have come up short the last two seasons in the district title game by a combined 8 points. Valley View should be right in the mix again this season with a defense that could dominate and an offense that should be improved.
The quarterback position will be decided in training camp between Casey Malsberger and Zach Cwalinski, both who got time there last season. Preston Reed returns at fullback after running for 613 yards last season and Nick Kucharski will be the tailback after rushing for 500 yards as the backup in 2023. Beyon McLean returns at wide receiver and Jack Kovack and Ben Evans will also see time there. Jason Munley, Tyler Scoblick, and Gianni Marino will all get reps at tight end.
The offensive line returns two starters in right tackle Tommy Fiorelli and right guard Nikko Hazleton. Danny Murphy returns from injury to take over at left tackle while Nick Marino will be the new center and Trevor Griffiths will be penciled in at left guard.
The defensive line will have some newcomers with Aidan Muchal, Brady Cunningham, and Aidan Moser seeing time at defensive end. Nick Williams is back at defensive tackle and will be joined by Jake Rutkowski and Jack Kondrat. Patrick McIntyre returns at outside linebacker with Scoblick expected to be on the other side. All-State linebacker Marino is back in the middle of the Cougars defense and will be joined by Joey Valvano and Jeffrey Wasilchak. Both cornerbacks return including All-District 2 Kucharski and Richie Leslie. There will be a competition at safety with Timmy Ulkoski and Ben Evans leading contenders.
The Cougars kicking game should improve with Braden Loff taking over placekicking duties and McLean returning as the punter. Kucharski and Evans will return kicks.
