2024 PREVIEW
Head coach Paul Russick is hoping that this is the squad that turns the corner for the Honesdale program. It has been a building project since he arrived, but with veteran leadership and some talented players, the Hornets are hoping to make some noise in the division and in Class 4A.
Honesdale decided to go with Aiden Collins as the starter when he was a freshman and now the senior enters his fourth season as the signal caller. He has put up respectable numbers, but they are hoping this year he takes it to the next level. Mason Avery will be at big part of the offense at running back after rushing for 1,200 yards in 2023. Robert Quinn, Gabe Duda, and Manny Edwards will provide depth at tailback. Bradley Bibalo returns as the starting fullback. Conlan Keast returns as one starting receiver with Kobe White, Jakub Randolph, Clay LeClere, Zach Meagher and Duda battling for playing time in the passing game. Keast and Bibalo will also line up a tight end in certain formations.
The offensive line returns two starters and also gets a boost from the return of left tackle Anthony Passaro who started as a sophomore but missed last season with an injury. Wyatt Rutherford is back at right guard and Evan Funk returns at center. Charlie Prosbt is penciled in at right tackle and Logan Dieterich, Lonan Judge, Bobby MacDowell, and Gus Deron will compete for the right guard position.
Donovan Davis is back as one of the starting defensive ends and will be joined by Passaro or Collins on the other side. Dietrich is also a returning starter at defensive tackle with Deron most likely to fill the other hole. All three linebackers are back including Bibalo on the inside with Probst and Quinn slated to be starters. Landen Eustus is a returning starter at cornerback while Randolph and Leclere will be considered for the other side. Keast is back at safety and Duda, White, and Meagher will be in the mix for the other safety spot.
The kicking game should be strong with Avery back as one of the placekickers. Rylan Montgomery also can help at that position. Collins is back as the punter.
