2024 PREVIEW
Holy Cross showed some progress last season and hopes to build on that momentum headed into 2024. With an experienced roster and more players on the roster, the Crusaders hope to be a spoiler in LFC Division III and rack up more wins this season. Running the football will be key with some talented skill players and capable offensive line returning.
With the Wudarski brothers the foundation of the offense – Aiden at tailback and Leland at fullback – Holy Cross will have star power in the backfield. Josh Lentowski returns at quarterback to run the offense while Freddy Ceccaci and Austin Bicking are back at wide receiver. There will be competition at tight end between David Jennings, Henry Chilewski and Jon Mills.
Holy Cross is experienced up front with four returning starters including left tackle Branden Fadl, left guard Gregg Novak, center Calder Lehman, and right guard Simon Madore. John Elko will be the new right tackle while Vinnie Sansone provides depth.
Novak returns at defensive end while Elko, Sansone and Colin Farrell will all be in the rotation. Fadl and Madore are back at the defensive tackle spots. Kevin Vincent and Jennings are returning starters at inside linebacker. Leland Wudarski will anchor the middle at linebacker with Aiden Wudarski moving into the other spot. Ceccaci and Chilewski return at the cornerback positions with Bicking also getting reps. Lentowski is the returning starter at safety for the Crusaders.
Farrell will provide the placekicking.
QUOTE FROM COACH GIORGIO: We are going to be very young and inexperienced and hope to improve from week to week. Having a small roster, we will need to stay healthy to be competitive each week. Our goal is to be able to run the football and keep the chains moving and avoid the turnovers. Defensively, we have to be able to do a better job of tackling and creating turnovers.
