2023 PREVIEW
A new era starts at Valley View as Scot Wasilchak becomes the third head coach in the history of the school. However, there is familiarity with the program as Wasilchak has been an assistant for the Cougars for a decade and also played there. Valley View is coming off a league title in 2022 and it appears once again the Cougars will reload, not rebuild despite graduating several all-star players.
There will be a new face at quarterback as Casey Malsberger takes over the position. Camryn Higgins, who rushed for 100 yards in a game last season, will be the primary running and backed up by Nick Kucharski. Preston Reed returns at fullback with Zack Cwalinski and Nick Solomon also seeing time there. Dom Memo and Chris Savkov are experienced wide receivers while Pat McIntyre, Beyon McLean, and Jack Kovack will also be in the mix. Kyle Rupp returns at tight end while Jason Munley and Gianni Marino will provide depth.
The offensive line returns two starters in center Jerry Wasilchak and Logan Smith, who will move to guard. Tommy Fiorelli and Danny Murphy will be the tackles while Nico Hazleton plays the other guard. Jack Kondrat, Robbie Nolan and Steven Hallaoran will provide depth up front.
Halloran and Nolan return as the defensive end and might be the best outside duo in the league. The Cougars will rotate a host of players at tackle including Alex Conserette, Nick Williams Aiden Muchal, Kondrat, Fiorelli, Smith and Murphy. Marino and Cwalinski are back at linebacker while Robbie Sebastianelli and Rupp will play at outside linebacker. The starting cornerbacks return in Kucharski and Savkov, although Savkov will move to saftey. Higgins will step in at the other cornerback. Richie Leslie, Gabe Davis, Brady Skeen and Kovack will provide depth at corner with Memo, Mike Shemonski, and Shawn Chorba backups safety.
Kucharski and Higgins will return kicks with Cwalinski now handling the punting. Jacob Bekele will be the new kicker while Cwalinski will handle kickoffs. Savkov is the long snapper.
QUOTE FROM COACH WASILCHAK: Our kids have worked extremely hard and have done everything they possibly can do to get ready for the season. How quickly our inexperienced players can progress will determine how successful we are this season. But as usual our goal at Valley View is to win championships.
