2023 PREVIEW

It was a great two-year run for the Chiefs who won back-to-back district and league titles. However, this year might be a struggle after being hit hard by graduation. Nonetheless, it might take some time, but Lakeland will still be a factor as the season goes on.

David Naniewicz takes over at quarterback. He saw time in the playoffs last year because of injury. He will take some time to settle in but should eventually be very effective for the Chiefs. Chris Chmiola is expected to take over at running back with Josh Ponce, Jordan Case, and Caden Cuozzo also in consideration for carries. Joe Pezanowski will be the new fullback. Riley Rovinsky is back at wide receiver as the most experienced skill player returning. Chase Rosenkrans, R.J. Smith, Evan Colachino, and Jayden Poklemba also could get reps at receiver. Andrew Gelderman will be the new tight end.

Left tackle Lyndon Bello is the lone returning offensive lineman. Alex Woodward, Ethan Kilmer, Ethan Depoti, and Weston Loomis are expected to fill the other four spots. Drew Chervanka and Noah Shaffer will provide depth up front.

Bello is the lone returning starter on the defensive line. He will be joined inside by Chervanka, Loomis, and Kilmer. The defensive ends are expected to be Woodward and Shaffer. Linebacker is a strength with Chmiola and Rovinsky back as the outside linebackers. Gelderman is a returning starter at inside linebacker with Ponce, Pezanowski,  and Charlie Makala competing for the other spot. The secondary will be brand new with Case, Smith, Colachino, Rosenkrans, Poklemba, and Calvin Gumbs Jacobs possibilities at cornerback. Either Cuozzo or Ashton Petrilak will be the safety.

Ryan Bianchi will take over the place kicking and punting duties.

QUOTE FROM COACH PIWOWARCZYK: We have to replace a bunch of special players from last years team, but that has not stopped this years team from working hard and focusing on the little things to be competitive. We will be young in many key spots and look forward to the season.
