2023 PREVIEW
The Royals had the most wins in school history last season, but it will be hard for them to repeat that feat after losing a very talented senior class. However, Redeemer is hoping the success will motivate more players to play and they can keep moving in the right direction.
Big shoes to fill at quarterback as Tommy Dugan will take over the position. Luke Kopec has experience at running back with Jason Nazario and Nathan Orlando also seeing time. Ryan Garvin will be the new fullback. D.J. McDermott is a returning starter at wide receiver with Tristan Block, Nick Latinski, Mike Zbierski, Kyaire McClean, and Josh Grochowski all in the mix for playing time. Luke Hendrzak, Kyle Ly, and Alex Snyder are the tight ends on the roster.
Holy Redeemer will return two offensive linemen from last season including center Chase Swoboda and right guard Kacy Miller. The expected new linemen are Josue Lua at left tackle, Luke Hajkowski at left guard, and Cole Lisowski at right tackle.
Luke Hendrzak will be one of the defensive ends with competition in camp for the other side. Owen Boshek and Hajkowski are returning starters at the defensive tackle spots. Kopec was a starting linebacker last season and will be joined Garvin, John Ondich, Ly or McDermott. Ryan Ondich will also provide depth. Josh Kreidler, Anthony Falcon, Zbierski, and Latinski are all in the mix at cornerback. Block is a returning starter at safety with Kyaire McClean also expected to see time.
Tyler Tarnalicki is one of the better returning kickers in the WVC.
QUOTE FROM COACH KELLEY: As a program, we have high hopes coming in to the 2023 season. Our goal is to continue the success we had last year and use those experiences to continue building the program. We have a lot of young players that will start or get a lot of playing time and the upperclassmen have done a great job of setting a great example for them. As long as we continue to improve every day, we should have a chance to match or exceed last season’s win total and earn a spot in the district playoffs for the second year in a row.
