2023 PREVIEW
Plenty went wrong last season for Holy Cross, but Coach Joe Giorgio hopes that the fact that plenty of younger players got experience can help the Crusaders be more competitive on the field. But the small roster continues to be the main issue with the team because there is little depth in the case of injuries.
Josh Lentowski will be the new quarterback for Holy Cross and is inexperienced. However, running back will be a strength with the return of tailback Aiden Wudarski and fullback Leland Wudarksi, both who started as freshmen last season. Freddy Ceccacci and David Jennings will be the new wide receivers and Kevin Vincent and Joe Lalli will split time at tight end.
The offensive line will have experience on the right side with tackle Chris Petrucci and guard Zac Minich. Branden Fadl will be the new left tackle and Noah Karzenoski will start at center. Gregg Novak, Frank Cutrona, and Simon Madore will compete in camp to get playing time at left guard.
Up front on defense, Lalli, Cutrona, Novak, and Madore will be in the mix at defensive end. Petrucci returns at defensive tackle and will be joined inside by Fadl. The Wudarski brothers will return at inside linebacker and Vincent and Jennings are experienced at outside linebacker. The secondary will have all new faces with Ceccacci and Henry Chilewski at the corners and Lentowski at safety.
Special teams has experience with Leland Wudarski back as the kicker, Aiden Wudarski as the punter and Petrucci will handle the long snapping. Ceccacci could also be involved.
QUOTE FROM COACH GIORGIO: We are going to be very young and inexperienced and hope to improve from week to week. Having a small roster, we will need to stay healthy to be competitive each week. Our goal is to be able to run the football and keep the chains moving and avoid the turnovers. Defensively, we have to be able to do a better job of tackling and creating turnovers.
