2023 PREVIEW

The record might have been the same from the previous season, but Abington Heights was definitely more competitive in 2022. They won three division games and played the best teams on their schedule tougher than recent years including upsetting district champion Delaware Valley. The Comets think they can build on that success and confidence.

Abington returns quarterback Shawn Theodore. He had his bright spots, and if he can cut down on the turnovers, he will have a big year. Nick Bradley, who got some time last year, will be the backup. Anthony Curra is the returning running back with Declan Walsh and Dom Vergnetti providing depth. Austin Boersma is back at fullback with Cayd Sespico and Gavin Padula serving as backups. Mason Fedor is a returning strarter at wide receiver. Gavin Anders, Kevin Schmidt, Shane Brower, Bradley, and Anthony Severs are also in contention to get playing time. Sespico or Shane Brower will be the new tight end.

The Comets have two offensive linemen returning including center Brandon Lezinski and right tackle A.J. Abda. Asiel Richards and Myles Knott are possible choices at left tackle. Either Jackson Drake or J.J. Gorrick will be the left guard. Liam Fick and Tim Phillips are options at right guard. Anthony Riker and Logan Bohn will provide depth on the offensive front.

Abda returns at defensive end with Sespico, Knott, or Drake filling the other spot. Fick, Marshal Gordon, Lezinski, and Gorrick are candidates to be the new defensive tackles. Boersma is back at linebacker with Anthony Chillari, Padula, Vergnetti, and Severs playing the other backer spot.  Curra and Schmidt return as the starting cornerbacks. Fedor,  Anders, and Brower all are experienced safeties.  Bradley and Walsh also could see time in the secondary.

Jack Farrell will be the new kicker and punter.
