2022 PREVIEW
The Cavaliers went back-to-back seasons without a district title but was able to get back on top with a Class 3A title in 2021 and also an unbeaten regular season. Prep will be a major player again although the offensive line and some key defensive positions were hit hard by graduation. The Cavs will also move up to LFC Division I which means the schedule will be more difficult, but Scranton Prep should be up for the challenge.
Of course, the focus of the offense over the past two seasons has been Penn State commit London Montgomery. Nobody really stopped him last season and his natural ability and speed will make him a threat every time he touches the ball. He will get a new fullback in Max Shnipes. Quentin Palermo and Jamie Barrett will be the backup tailbacks with Tanner Reese the backup at fullback. Sean Monahan returns at quarterback and will be backed up by Louis Paris. Liam Barrett and Jalonte Weeks have experience at wide receiver. Jake Gentile, Treyvon Dickey, James Pappas, and Jack Doughton will also be in the mix for playing time there. Aidan Colleran returns at tight end with Andrew Summa and Daniel Haggerty providing depth.
The offensive line needs to be rebuilt with the exception of All-District 2 guard Anthony Nicotera. Several players will be in contention for the other four spots: Keith Pritchyk, Logan Heffner and Cameron Palermo at the tackles; Ray Kresefski and Mick O’Malley at left guard; Nyeem Gonzalez and Gino Mazza at center. Travis Sharples will provide depth.
Defense has more experience with Nicotera back at defensive end and Shnipes back at defensive tackle. Pritchyk, Kresefski, Anthony Ambrose Rossi and Max Tierney will be in the mix at end while Sharples, Gonzalez, and Logan Heffner will be in consideration at tackle. Colleran is back at outside linebacker with Quentin Palermo and Jamie Barrett other options. O’Malley is back at inside linebacker with Aidan Britton, Summa, and Tanner expected to see some time. Montgomery returns at cornerback with Liam Barrett. Weeks, Monahan, Pappas and Treyvon Dickey could also see some playing time at corner. Gentile returns at saftey with Doughton his backup.
Ray Rinaldi will handle the placekicking for Prep.
