2022 PREVIEW
North Pocono had it’s best season in recent years but did come up a little bit short for division and district titles. Yet, the Trojans are confident they are going to keep the trend moving upward with high numbers on the varsity and freshmen levels. They will be a factor again even with some holes to fill.
The biggest hole to fill is at quarterback. Noah West will take over and is athletic enough he should grow into the position. The running game is in good hands with Michael Blaine returning after narrowly missing a 1,000 yard rushing season. Kevin Wickizer will give North Pocono some depth in the backfield. The new fullback will be either Zach Gallant or Nate Hauenstein. Ashton Smith returns at wide receiver while Riley Moore and Cole Thomas will also see playing time. Ty LaFave returns at tight end. Mason Richards and Ryan Marsh will provide depth at the position.
The offensive line returns three starters with left tackle Brendan Kearney, left guard Zach Hoover, and right guard Jake Keating back this season. Kevin Gillette is slated to be the starting center while Zach Hatala is penciled in at right tackle. Dom Locatelli will provide depth on the line.
The Trojans will have to replace some players up front with Kearney being the veteran of the group inside. Keating will man the other spot with Hauenstein providing depth. Mason Richards, Gallant, Hatala, and Locatelli will all be in the mix for the defensive end spots. The linebacking group is strong with LaFave and Hoover. Marsh will also play outside with Evan Jenkins providing depth at backer. Moore returns at cornerback and Blaine at safety. West and Thomas will compete for the other cornerback spot and Smith and Wickizer will be the other safties.
Brady Mapes will get his shot at place kicking. The other special teams spots will be decided during camp.
QUOTE FROM COACH DOLHON: We are excited for this upcoming season and our very challenging schedule. We hope to build upon last year’s ten win season which included two playoff victories. Our senior leadership and skill positions are the strength of the team.
