2022 PREVIEW
Dallas won their division last season before exiting the playoffs in the district semifinals. The Mounts feel they have enough to compete in an even tougher division and a competitive Class 4A district bracket. The Mountaineers are hoping their young skill players mature quickly and the run defense ends up being a strength this season.
Brady Zapoticky takes over at quarterback for Dallas with Nate Malarky and Dylan Geskey also getting some reps in practice to be the backsups. Stonybrook commit Parker Bolesta was a 1,000 yard rusher last season and is poised to repeat that feat. Geskey will be the starting fullback. Joey Peters and Zack Paczewski are returning starters at wide receiver and Nick Farrell, last year’s starting tight end, moves to the receiver position. John Cummings, Pete Harpersberger, and Archie Stephens will compete in training camp to win the tight end job.
The offensive line brings back four starters from last season and one from the 2020 season. Lucas Shultz started as a sophomore, but missed last year with an injury. He will be the right tackle this season. Left tackle Colby Klintob, left guard Dan Sabulski, center John Scherer and right guard Aiden Fennell are the other returning starters.
Bolesta was an All-District 2 defensive lineman last year but will move to linebacker for the 2022 season. Ryan Cuba and Mark Karcutskie are also returning starters at the backer spots. Schultz and Farrell will play the defensive end spots and Klinetob and Sabulski will play in the interior up front. Geskey, Peters and Paczewski all return in the secondary and will be joined Lucas Tirpak and Ben Carpenter.
Jace Chopyak is the returning place kicker for the third year. Paczewski returns as the punter. Rowan Laubach will provide kicking depth.
QUOTE FROM COACH MANNELLO: Special Teams: As always, balancing the correct combination of starters and players that rotate in will be the key to our special teams success. Defense: If the roster depth proves true on the field, we will be able to roll on the defensive line and LB to help spell two way starters. Offense: The returning O Line, backs and receivers will be counted on to manage drives as a talented but young group of QB’s develop. Brady Zapoticky(10th grade) is the starter. Nate Malarky (10th grade SE-DB) and Dylan Geskey (10th grade RB-DB) are cross training at QB.
