2022 PREVIEW
After winning a district title in 2020, the 2021 season saw little go right for the Comets. However, there are plenty of good football players coming back and that makes Crestwood one of the more experienced teams in the WVC. They should be a challenge for opponents in the division and the district.
Noah Shultz was supposed to be the quarterback in 2021 but ended up running for over 1,000 yards as the tailback. He returns and will be backed up by James Barrett and Logan Rolles. The Comets will insert a freshman at quarterback in Jaden Shedlock who will be backed up by last year’s QB Jason Swank. Lincoln Bibla will be the new fullback with Rolles backing him up. The wide receivers are experienced with starters Josh Hilpp and Brendan Dennis returning. Robert Knight, Nick Miscavage, Collin Lazo, and Matt Sklarosky also could see time there. Magnus Bibla is back at tight end but could oplay some receiever with Zach Shelosky providing depth at tight end.
The offensive line has three players returning who will all be three-year starters: left tackle Aidan Jardine, left guard John Jones and right guard Chris Smolenak. Andrew Lenahan will take over at center and Logan Price and Aleks Jaskiewicz could see time at right guard.
The entire front returns on defense for Crestwood with Magnus Bibla and Smolenak at the ends. Jones and Jardine return at the defensive tackle spots. Sheloski, Jaskiewicz, Price, Josh Rotski, and Chris Harmon will provide depth. Cole Kakalecik and Lincoln Bibla are returning starters at linebacker with Michael Antosh, Brady Davidson, and Rolles providing depth at the position. Four starters return in the secondary including Schultz and Dennis at the corners and Knight and Miscavage at the safeties. Lazo, Swank, Hilpp, and Sklarosky are also in the mix.
Smolenak returns as the long snapper. The kicking and punting positions will have new faces with Barrett, Rolles, and Dennis getting consideration.
QUOTE FROM COACH ARCANGELI: 2020 Success hangover is now overshadowed by 2021 underperformance that has pushed the 2022 group to take a hard look at what made us great. Hard conversations, reflection and our TEAM first attitude has put us in back into the driver seat for success. “We” are our only focus…the rest will take care of itself.
