2022 PREVIEW
The good news is Abington Heights is seeing the particpation numbers rise again that has given the Class 5A team some issues with depth. The Comets have some very talented players returning but also will be inexperienced, especially on offense. It might be a slow climb back to being a winning program, but they are on the right track.
Quarterback will be a key decision as there are several candidates to take over the position including Nick Bradley, Shawn Theodore, and Kevin Schmidt. Austin Boersma started at fullback last season but could also see some time at running back. Anthony Curra and Dom Vergnetti will also see time at tailback. Jake Grimaldi, Cayd Sespico and Gavin Padula will provide depth at fullback. Christian Henzes is a returning starter at wide receiver with Roman Cutrufello, Jack Burke, Mason Fedor, and Zach Brister all vying for playing time. Brown commit Nico Bossi is back at tight end and will be backed up by Garrett Sespico and Gavin Kerrigan.
Connor Casey is a returning starter at center, but the makeup of the offensive line will be determined in training camp with Hunter Landers, Anthony Chillari, Asiel Richards, Brandon Lezinski, and A.J. Abda all candidates to play up front.
The Comets are experienced at defensive end with Bossi and Burke returning starters. Richards, Lezinski, and Abda will be considered for the defensive tackle positions. Boersma is back at outside linebacker with Kerrigan, Casey, Grimaldi, Vergnetti, Chillari and Padula all looking to get time at the other outside spot and inside linebacker as well. The secondary returns Cutrufello and Henzes at the safeties. Curra, Schmidt, Bradley, Brister, and Shane Brower will all compete for the cornerback positions.
Michael Hartshorn has a strong leg and is back to handle both kicking and punting duties.
QUOTE FROM COACH REPSHIS: We are excited for the 2022 season. We are focused on developing and growing together as a team one rep at a time. Our goal is to continuously improve by at least 1% each day
