Here are the 2022 LFC Division I All-Stars presented by Shane Scanlon Law. The list is compiled by feedback from the division coaches and NPF Staff.
OFFENSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Connor Hilling, Sr. – Valley View
After a slow start to the season, Hilling ended up the leading rusher in the LFC. The senior not only showed off his track speed but also tough running between the tackles despite his small stature. He ended up with 1,348 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns and was the primary offensive weapon for the LFC Division I champion Cougars. He also caught 13 passes for 177 yards and another score. Hilling finished his Valley View career with 2,922 rushing yards.
DEFENSE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Nico Bossi, Sr. – Abington Heights
Bossi was one of the top college prospects in the area coming into the season and he proved why. The Brown University commit was dominant in almost every game he played as the Abington Heights defense kept the Comets in games and helped pull a couple upsets along the way. Showing to be a team player, Bossi actually was switched from his natural defensive end position to defensive tackle and still excelled. He finished the season with 101 tackles, 10 TFLs, 3 sacks, 5 passes defended and a forced fumble. Bossi was a team captain and three-year starter for Abington.
LINEMAN OF THE YEAR
Javon James, Jr. – Scranton
Scranton knew they had something special back during James’ freshman season and it all showed up in 2022. James was a outstanding two-way performer up front for the Knights who reached the Class 5A district title game. On offense, the three-year starter led a steady unit that was both proficient in the run and pass. He finished the season with 19 pancake blocks. On defense, James had 69 tackles from his defensive tackle position, 15 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and 3 quarterback hurries for Scranton.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Steve Shumbres – Scranton
Nobody expected the Knights to make any noise this year. But a strong first half of the season propelled Scranton to an 8-4 record and an appearance in the district championship game. This was the second time Shumbres was named our division Coach of the Year (2019) as he took another team with low expectations and made them contenders coming up a field goal short of winning the Class 5A title.
