This is the 11th edition of our Five To Watch series. We thank The Mattioli Law Firm for returning as our title sponsor for Five To Watch. There are 33 teams in the WVC and LFC so it’s impossible to recognize every single player who might be deserving. The players we do list are some of the best at their position or have an interesting role coming up in 2022 for their team. Players will be recognized at only one position, even if they are capable two-way players. For players who don’t make the list, we hope you strive to make our lists at the end of the season because they are the ones that really count.
Here are the specialists:
Chase Arthur, Sr. – Carbondale Area
Height: 6-0 Weight 183
Arthur is one of the best long snappers in the area as well as manning the offensive and defensive lines for the Chargers. Last season, he was perfect on his snaps – 26 for 26 on extra points and field goals and 31 for 31 on punts. Arthur was named a LFC Division III Honorable Mention offensive lineman last season.
Jace Chopyak, Sr. – Dallas
Height: 5-11 Weight 195
@chopyak_jace
Chopyak was a very consistent placekicker for his junior season for the Mountaineers. He made 38 extra points and added a field goal. His leg strength has improved and he should be a good special teams weapon for Dallas. Chopyak was named a WVC 4A Honorable Mention kicker in 2021.
Chopyak Highlights
Evan Corcoran, Sr. – Wilkes-Barre
Height: 6-1 Weight 170
Corcoran had some big kicks in 2021 including four field goals. He was 19 for 21 in extra points and had a strong leg on kickoffs. He also plays for the Wolfpack soccer team. Corcoran was a WVC 6A/5A First Team kicker last season.
Michael Hartshorn, Sr. – Abington Heights
Height: 6-0 Weight 160
@mikehartshorn43
Hartshorn did double duty for the Comets last season. His strong leg has made him valuable on kickoffs and punts. He was recently ranked 12th as a punter in a recent national event this summer that had 350 participants. Hartshorn made 14 extra points and a field goal in 2021.
Hartshorn Highlights
Max Hunt, Sr. – Dunmore
Height: 5-11 Weight 147
Hunt was very consistent for the Bucks last season. Despite an offense that struggled, he made 3 field goals and 11 extra points. He should be an asset for the Dunmore special teams. Hunt was named an LFC Division III First Team kicker last season.
