2021 PREVIEW

The Warriors struggled at times in 2020 to stay on top of Class 3A after losing a great senior class that led them to a state title, but still had a winning record. But the talented younger players on that team are now seniors and hope to make another mark on the school’s program.

Wyoming Area will put a familiar name at quarterback this season in Penn State recruit Blaise Sokach-Minnick. Known more for his long snapping and defense, he should be able to be a leader of the offense with little issues. Drew Mruk returns at running back with Nico Sciandra and Rich Hyzinski. Jayden Rusyn is also back and will be a fullback/tight end hybrid. Leo Haros, Rocco Pizano and Usamah Alansari are the returning wide receivers who will also be involved in the running game.

The offensive line has some very talented players returning in Nick Elko and Ryan Gilpin. Matt Clarke, Owen Kelly, Alex Chickson, Matt Pelleschi and Sal Mansi are seniors who could fill the other three spots. Ethan Speece, Russel VanAuken, and Anthony VanAuken are underclassmen on the depth chart.

The defense will be the strength of the team with Sokach-Minnick and Rusyn at the ends and Elko at the nose tackle. Riley Knaub and Justin Francis will provide depth up front.  Mruk will return in the middle at linebacker along with Aaron Crossley. Hyzinski and Joe Marranca will provide depth at the position. Pizano, Alansari and Haros are all returning starters in the secondary. John Morgan, Garret Pocceschi, Vincenzo Nova and Sciandra are others that could contribute.

The special teams are always strong with Sokach-Minnick one of the best long snappers in the country. Pizano and Haros are dynamic returners while Rusyn will handle the kicking and punting.
