2021 PREVIEW
The Wolfpack will be young and inexperienced for 2021. They will also play all of their game basically on the road as their new stadium is still under construction. But don’t count Wilkes-Barre out at there is always talent at the school just like there was before the merger of G.A.R., Coughlin and Meyers.
Javant McClary who got a lot of playing time at quarterback because of injury last season will use the that experience to be the offensive leader. Mekhi Nelson and Ariel Lopez are slated to be the backups. Howie Shiner is the favorite to be the starting tailback although Ben Kenzakoski, Dominic Ascerno and Gabe Saraceno will be considered for carries. Anthony Nguyen is back at tight end, but will also play fullback and will be backed up at fullback by Jace John, Fred White and Nick Herbinko. The depth at tight end consists of John, Gannon Redding, Connor Kelly and Kaleb Dutko. The top two receivers graduated but Sincere Williams did get playing time in 2020 and will be joined by Naquan Johnson. Javon Goodwin, Nigell Davis, Mike Andrzejewski, Maliek Afzal, Nyquon Hollman and Max Gregor are all on the depth chart at receiver.
Junior Ian Bednar is the most experienced lineman having started since his freshman year at left guard. Jimmy Gryskewicz will start at one of the tackle positions while Cameron Hagenbaugh takes over at center. Gilbert Gonzalez is projected at right guard while Dan Horgan, Bobby Delescavage, Gio Gonzalez and Connor Chapple will provide depth up front.
John and White will be the defensive ends backed up Hagenbaugh and Delescavage. Bednar and Gilbert Gonzalez are penciled in at defensive tackle with Gryskewicz and Gio Gonzalez next on the depth chart. Afzal and Kenzakoski will play outside linebacker with Johnson, Gregor, and Saraceno also in the mix. Shiner and Nguyen both have experience at inside lineabacker. Redding and Herbinko will be the backups. Williams and McClary are the favorites to start at cornerback with Goodwin and Davis providing depth. Nelson should be the starting safety and Hollman and Lopez considered for playing time.
Evan Corcoran will be the placekicker and Hollman returns as the punter. Chapple and Koby Bednar will be the long snappers.
QUOTE FROM COACH CINTI: Very hard working team with great chemistry even though we are a very young team.
