2021 PREVIEW
It was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Wildcats in 2020, but it ended up being a championship season as Western Wayne shared the league title with Valley View and Scranton Prep. The ‘Cats will face some new challenges this season but should be in contention with some star power leading the way.
Caden Brungard moves from quarterback to running back this season. The Army commit is athletic and was a very good runner as the QB last year. Sophomore Frankie Leyshon takes over at quarterback while Nick Tomasetti will be the new fullback. Paul Guidice and Luke Janiszewski will also see time in the backfield. Jaiden DeRosa returns at wide receiver while Josh Mankhe, Sean Owens, Vin Tomasetti, and Liam Farley will look for playing time. Delaware recruit tight end Thomas Chernasky will be the No. 1 target in the passing game and Brandon Cleveland will serve as his backup and line up in two tight end sets.
The Wildcats return four starters on the offensive line including left tackle Thomas Flood, All-Division left guard Kyle Guarino, center Nate Swingle, and right guard Anthony Trutt. Right tackle Alex Enslin is the lone newcomer to the unit.
Chernasky and Guarino return up front on the defensive line while Cleveland will be the new defensive end. Trutt and Swingle will rotate inside. Nick Tomasetti, Janiszewski and Guidice will play linebacker. The safeties are both returning starters in DeRosa and Brungard. Alex Lucke, John McCabe, Vin Tomasetti and Farley will get looks at cornerback.
Chernasky is the returning punter while Carter Mistishin takes over kicking duties and Janiszewski will long snap.
QUOTE FROM COACH WOLFF: We have an experienced line that will have to control the line-of-scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Having a small roster and a tough schedule, staying healthy will have a big part if we are successful.
