2021 PREVIEW
Wallenpaupack has pieces in place for 2021 to compete for the LFC Division I title and a lot of that will revolve around the running game. Shadrak Agyei returns for his senior and is considered one of the best running backs in District 2. If the offensive line can put it together, the Buckhorns will be a tough stop on offense.
With Agyei settled in at tailback, he will be running behind a new fullback in Jacob Gonzalez. Anthony Martucci and Aiden Pierson will provide depth at running back and fullback respectively. A new quarterback will be behind center in senior Mabret Levant. An outstanding athlete, he will have one of the better wide receivers at his disposal in T.J. Schmalze. Justin Stella, Tyler Kapschull, Chris Quigley and Dominick Cresta will all be looking for playing time at the receiver position. Jordan Santiago is an emerging tight end for Paupack and will be backed up by Jaysson Reales and Carlo Carrozza. Quigley and Ethan Moses will be behind Levant on the quarterback depth chart.
The offensive line is very young with only one senior in left guard Jeff Williams. The projected starters for the rest of the offensive line Ben Ostroski is at left tackle, Jake LaBelle at center, Mike Fitzgerald at right guard and Justin Kowalik at right tackle.
Nose guard Sam Filip is the only returning starter on the defensive line as Williams, Carrozza and Fitzgerald will also be in the mix. All the linebackers are new starters with Santiago at one outside spot and Jaysson Reales and Martucci will share the other side. Antonio Ianetta will start inside with Xavier Schock and Pierson filling the other spot inside. The secondary is very strong with the return of Schmalze (SS), Mabret Levant (CB) and Quigley (CB). Stella will be penciled in at free safety.
The kicking is in very good hands or should we say foot with senior Roman Levant. He will handle kicking and punting duties and is considered one of the best kicking prospects in the state. Mabret Levant and Schmalze will be the long snappers depending on the situations.
QUOTE FROM COACH WATSON: Our Offensive line (although being young) will be very big and strong and with our TB back for the third year starting we should be able to run the ball effectively. We will be very good at the skill positions and the sooner our line gels the better we will be offensively. Defensively we will have to replace all 4 linebackers which is a serious concern. Our defensive line should be big and our secondary will have a bunch of experience. If our defense can limit big plays and create some turnovers we will be a very competitive team.
