2021 PREVIEW
Susquehanna lost some key seniors but brings back an exciting young players that should keep the Sabers in the LFC Division IV race this season. Coach Kyle Cook has made some adjustments to the offense to match his personnel so we should see a different style for the Sabers on that side of the ball.
There is plenty of excitement around new quarterback Colton Stone. The 6-4, 185 pound sophomore will be key to the Sabers new offense. Layne Fisk is the new running back and Brad Cottrell returns as the fullback. Returning starters Jesse DeLousia and Spencer Beamer will be the main targets in ther passing game while Carson Williams and Jason Smith will also play at wide receiver.
Three starters return on the offensive line including left tackle Collin Smith, center Garrett Cordner and right guard Issiah Rosa. John Michal Phillips and Rykin Hobart will compete for the left guard position. Devlin Ace is penciled in as the right tackle.
Cottrell returns at defensive end with Auston Harvey expected to play on the other side. Hobart will join returning starters Collin Smith and Issiah Rosa at defensive tackle. DeLousia and Williams return at linebacker and will be joined by Kaleb Shiner as the third player in the group. Beamer and J.J. Rosa are the new cornerbacks while Ryan Stone will play safety.
Fisk returns to do the kicking duties while DeLousia and Beamer will be special teams contributors.
QUOTE FROM COACH COOK: Although we do have some key contributors back we still are very young and raw in several key areas. Implementing a new offense had a slow start but things are starting to run smoothly and it is creating several position battles. If we can stay healthy and win the turnover battle we will be in good shape this year.
