2021 PREVIEW
Pittston Area was very young last season so they are hoping that experience along with some bumps along the way will benefit the 2021 Patriots. There are some skill players that will be weapons on offense, but the bigger question is up front on offense and defense. Pittston needs to start taking control of the line of scrimmage more consistently.
There will be a new quarterback behind center as Jimmy Spindler is expected to make the move with Drew DeLucca also getting some consideration. Fullback David Sudo is both a physical runner and blocker and will lead the way for new tailbacks Harry Pugliese and Alex Hoban. Drew Menendez will provide depth at fullback. Robby Barbieri is back at wide receiver with Gino Triboski, David Girman, and Kevin Lockett all looking to get playing time. Adam Shovlin is one of the up-and-coming tight ends in the WVC and will be backed up by A.J. Scialpi.
The right side of the offensive line returns in right tackle Brandon Farrell and right guard Jack Albert. Either Jake Mills and Jaiden Morgans will be the center. Nick Cianfichi is the left tackle and Nick Sciandra is the left guard.
The defense will be strong inside with Sudo back at the nose tackle. Cianfichi, Farrell and Albert will rotate at the defensive ends. Spindler returns at inside linebacker and will be joined by Menendez. Hoban is back at outside linebacker and will be joined by Shovlin. Jaiden Morgans, Adam Lazar, and Scialpi will provide depth at the position. Barbieri returns at safety and Pugliese, A.J. Greico and DeLucca will also be considered at the other saftey. Troboski is a returning starter at cornerback with Girman, Lockett, Josh Pierre, and Anthony Ranieli in the mix for the other side.
Sudo and Barbieri will handle the place kicking and Lockett and DeLucca are both listed as punters. Greico is the long snapper.
QUOTE FROM COACH BARBIERI: Our young players gained valuable experience in last year’s shortened season. We are excited about this season. We feel we have an excellent group of skilled players returning and some young talent mixed with some veterans on the line. If we can eliminate the mistakes that plagued us last season we feel we will be competitive against a difficult schedule.
