2021 PREVIEW

Lakeland won their first district title since 2006 and would like to do it again. The Chiefs did lose some key players who have moved on to college football, but there is enough to compete for the league and district title. They will need some younger players step up and take on roles vacated by the key players from last season.

The one place you can point to is quarterback where Dominico Spataro is back after starting every game last season. He will have a great weapon at wide receiver in Nick Mancuso plus Kevin Snyder also got plenty of time last season. Jon Seamans and Riley Rovinsky will provide depth. The rest of the backfield will be new with running back is Jaron Bullick and fullback Jake Curcio. Lacota Dippre will take over at tight end from his older brother.

The line will need some work but tackle Mason Ormsby and center Jon Clauss-Walton will be the anchors. Adam Wormuth will be the new right tackle while Tommy Arthur, Luke Smurl, Thomas Scalzo, and Nick Lathrop will compete for the two guard positions.

Dippre and Smurl are the defensive ends will Ormsby returns at defensive tackle. Clauss-Walton, Wormuth, Scalzo, Lathrop, and Karl Rackavitch will be in the defensive line rotation. Bullick and Spataro return at outside linebacker while Curcio and Pochas will be the new inside backers. Josh Ponce and Andrew Gelderman will provide depth. Three experienced players will be in the secondary – cornerbacks Mancuso and Snyder and safety Seamans.

Zack Janosky will be the new placekicker and Snyder is the long snapper. The punter will be determined from competition in preseason camp.

QUOTE FROM COACH PIWOWARCZYK: We will only be as good as our offensive and defensive lines. The whole team has been working really hard this offseason. It will be hard to replace five all-region football players from the 2020 season, but we return a great nucleus of players from last season’s championship team.
